Documenting a growing Los Angeles community through photography.
Creating quite the spreadsheet, I spent almost two months planning, visiting and photographing coffee shops, restaurants, shops and everything in between to feature on the map. Writing up snappy copy was a first, but having some context for the photos is essential to the project. With minimal photo editing, the images captured and curated for On the Grid are what I feel really show the Arts District at its best.
Something I was not expecting from taking on this project was how out of my comfort zone I found myself. I had my haunts, but for the sake of collecting enough places, I ventured into places I'd never even heard of! Most places didn't even question the woman taking photos of their store; some even posed for the camera. I'm happy to share these spots with the anyone who stumbles upon On the Grid: Arts District; there's so many places I couldn't even get to!
